Partir en Livre, the eighth edition of the Great Children’s Book Festival, June 22-July 24, led by CNL, puts reading at the center of the summer festivities. Friendship workshop, comic book factory, meetings … More than 4,000 events are planned across France. Ask about the program in Ile-de-France!
The screen killed the novel! Young people don’t read anymore! And every year, the retreating people announce the death of books and reading, especially among teenagers. However, the most recent CNL/Ipsos study, conducted from January 27 to February 6, 2022 among 1,500 young adults, shows the opposite. Number: 84% of those surveyed between the ages of 7 and 25 love to read. This is 7% more than in 2016. When we say that young people do not like to read, it is certainly due to what we have put behind the word ‘reading’, i.e. the classics, Reigen Hachondo, president of CNL . explains. However, young people mainly love manga, comics, novels and science fiction. However, there is a strong drop out of reading in adolescence, after entering college, especially among boys.
Similarly, if young people read on average 3 hours 14 weeks, they also spend 3 hours 50 hours in front of a screen… per day. For the sake of summer, from June 22 to July 24, the Festival Partir en Livre in Ile-de-France and throughout the country, in partnership with National Education, offers activities to make reading a moment of celebration and loyalty. Judging from the poster of this eighth edition, with Idéfix and all his friends, the literary event is placed under the sign of friendship. Children are invited to meet with authors (including event sponsors Christelle Dabbs and Olivia Ruiz), hilarious readings, writing workshops, treasure hunts, and book hunts. Yes, the book is a treasure! You just have to find one to realize how rich it is…

With Livrodrome, let’s celebrate!
A great reading tour of France is an event not to be missed. With its ten stages, ask about the program, there will necessarily be a literary stop on your way.
Started in 2018 as part of the Partir en Livre Festival, Livrodrome was designed by its designer, Gauthier Morax, as a large amusement park dedicated to children’s books for pre-teens and teens (11-18 years old). Conceived in the manner of a tour of France, this offers a regional marina with visits to ten cities large and small (Liévin on 24 and 25 June, Saint-Dié-des-Vosges on 27 June, Pamiers on 12 July, Bergerac on 13 July, Saint-Etienne in July 19, etc.).
Authors, illustrators, ‘libraries’, booksellers… will be present at every stage of the tour. More than 120 professionals in the field of writers will come to meet the young audience. The festival presents an average of fifteen landmarks in each facility, some of which are designed entirely by local players (cultural and sports associations, etc.) and by youth.
the taste of words
In addition to the more classic writing workshops, and the reading marathon, many attractions create to give a taste of words. One thinks of the prescription booth, a privileged consultation with an author, illustrator, bookseller … who describes the book or album that has been made for his patient. Something to cure a lack of literary inspiration. Literary Karaoke, which will allow you to test your reading aloud while listening to offbeat music through headphones. Le Tattoo Molière to celebrate the master’s birthday with a quiz that tells you which character from his work you resemble the most. You will be able to get a temporary tattoo of one of the verses pronounced by this avatar. Or, the Radio Workshop for Youth during which tweens and pre-teens can interview authors, guest illustrators, debaters, and host programs like true professionals.
Every city has its own identity
This is not counting the plethora of fun and other participatory attractions that can be found on the site depending on the stages, from the manga escape game, to the beginning of literary graffiti, or even the typographic lab… Each city has its own color and identity!
