Decadent Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

Chocolate Cake:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Chocolate Mousse:

  • 8 oz semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

Chocolate Ganache:

  • 8 oz semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Topping:

  • Chocolate curls or shavings

Instructions

Cake:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch pans.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Beat on medium speed.
  4. Slowly add boiling water and beat on high speed for 1 minute.
  5. Pour into pans and bake 30-35 minutes. Cool completely.

Mousse:

  1. Melt chocolate in a double boiler and cool.
  2. Beat cream with sugar until stiff peaks form.
  3. Gently fold in melted chocolate.

Ganache:

  1. Place chocolate in a bowl.
  2. Heat cream to boiling and pour over chocolate. Let sit 2-3 minutes, then mix until smooth.

Assembly:

  1. Place one cake layer on a plate and top with mousse.
  2. Add the second layer of cake and pour the ganache on top.
  3. Decorate with chocolate curls.
