Ingredients
Chocolate Cake:
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
Chocolate Mousse:
- 8 oz semisweet chocolate, chopped
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
Chocolate Ganache:
- 8 oz semisweet chocolate, chopped
- 1 cup heavy cream
Topping:
- Chocolate curls or shavings
Instructions
Cake:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch pans.
- Mix flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Beat on medium speed.
- Slowly add boiling water and beat on high speed for 1 minute.
- Pour into pans and bake 30-35 minutes. Cool completely.
Mousse:
- Melt chocolate in a double boiler and cool.
- Beat cream with sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold in melted chocolate.
Ganache:
- Place chocolate in a bowl.
- Heat cream to boiling and pour over chocolate. Let sit 2-3 minutes, then mix until smooth.
Assembly:
- Place one cake layer on a plate and top with mousse.
- Add the second layer of cake and pour the ganache on top.
- Decorate with chocolate curls.
