Homemade Condensed Milk

Ingredients:

2 cups whole milk
2/3 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions:

In a medium saucepan, combine the milk and sugar.
Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Once the mixture reaches a simmer, reduce the heat to low and continue to cook for about 35-40 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
The mixture should reduce by half and thicken.
Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract (if using).
Let the condensed milk cool completely before transferring it to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
