Ingredients:
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 Tablespoon granulated sugar
1 Tablespoon aluminum-free baking powder
1 ¾ cups buttermilk (or up to 2 cups if needed)
2 cups small diced ham
1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
½ cup (1 stick) salted butter
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Lightly coat a 9×9-inch glass or ceramic baking dish with nonstick spray.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and baking powder.
Gradually add 1 ¾ cups of buttermilk to the dry ingredients, stirring until you achieve a sticky batter. Add more buttermilk if needed.
Fold in the diced ham and shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl or directly in the baking dish if it’s microwave-safe. Pour the melted butter into the prepared dish.
Spoon the biscuit dough over the melted butter, spreading it out gently (using nonstick spray on your hands can help).
Cut the dough into 9 squares to make it easier to separate after baking.
Bake in the middle of the oven for 25-30 minutes, rotating the dish halfway through. If the tops brown too quickly, cover with foil.
Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean.
