Ingredients:
- 1 pound (450g) of ground beef
- 1 pound (450g) of Italian sausage
- 1 onion, chopped
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 ounces) of crushed tomatoes
- 2 cans (6 ounces each) of tomato paste
- 1/2 cup of water
- 2 tablespoons of white sugar
- 1/4 cup of chopped fresh basil
- 1/2 teaspoon of fennel seeds
- 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 16 ounces (450g) of ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 3/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
- 4 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until softened.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, water, sugar, basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese until well combined.
- Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- To assemble the lasagna, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Arrange 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce.
- Spread a layer of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles, followed by a layer of mozzarella cheese.
- Repeat the layers, ending with a layer of meat sauce and mozzarella cheese on top.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy your delicious homemade lasagna!
