WORLDS BEST LASagna

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) of ground beef
  • 1 pound (450g) of Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) of crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cans (6 ounces each) of tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 2 tablespoons of white sugar
  • 1/4 cup of chopped fresh basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon of fennel seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 16 ounces (450g) of ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
  • 4 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until softened.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, water, sugar, basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese until well combined.
  6. Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  7. To assemble the lasagna, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  8. Arrange 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce.
  9. Spread a layer of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles, followed by a layer of mozzarella cheese.
  10. Repeat the layers, ending with a layer of meat sauce and mozzarella cheese on top.
  11. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  12. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  13. Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy your delicious homemade lasagna!
