Turkish bread

Turkish bread, also known as “pide,” is a delicious and versatile bread commonly enjoyed in Turkish cuisine. Here’s a simple recipe for making Turkish bread at home:

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the lukewarm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until the mixture becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Using a wooden spoon or your hands, mix the ingredients until a dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  7. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into two equal portions. Shape each portion into an oval or round shape, about 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) thick.
  8. Place the shaped dough onto the prepared baking sheet. Use your fingers to make indentations all over the surface of the dough.
  9. Bake the Turkish bread in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Enjoy your homemade Turkish bread warm with your favorite dips, spreads, or as a side to your favorite Turkish dishes!
